The Showers At Koothattukulam
M K Harikumar
Translation: Geetha Ravindran*
Years ago
It showered
in koothattukulam,
The unfamiliar rains !
The rains;
Though aged
Had heavy hubbub
In it's throat!
It rained
Day and night
lncessantly; yet pale !
It was a holiday
People neither got out
Nor wandered any where
As if aged
with greys n wringles
It roamed in every street
of Koothattukulam.
Could a small child at Ieast
be heard singing
With no relief
No support
Those downpours
disappeared.
Once during the
Festivities of Onam
lt was as a light- hearted
feminine drizzling !
Now
The rains laughed
As the clinging of anklets
Kept dancing
Again and again !
When
Prem Nazeer - enacted
Thacholi Ambu was played
She was gaurding outside.
Aട if ready for a fight
In a love-scene field
She threw lovely glances
In every step made
In her elegant healing humility
There was a touch
of cheer
There wasn't a room left
unseen by her.
